It's not only classical music that resounds through this picturesque medieval town. The local acoustics favour other music genres as well. This year-round series of concerts of jazz and alternative music culminates in early September with a traditional weekend festival, during which big-time domestic and international names of these music genres perform at highly untraditional places.

Similarly as her influences and inspirations Etta James or Cassandra Willson, all forms of expressions based on blues spontaneity are natural to her. She kick-started her singing career with spirituals, later moved on to jazz and at present she opts for a blues touch.

The famous American-Czech singer Tonya Graves had never done any professional singing until she landed at the Prague airport in 1995 (that is an exaggeration). However, she quickly become the big thing of the Czech music scene. First she cooperated with the renowned guitarist Luboš Andršt in some blues projects, then she quickly turned to more modern turf of dance music as the vocalist of Liquid Harmony. In 2000, Graves boarded the soul express known as Monkey Business of which she has been one of the hallmarks until present.

Alvik is an energy packed combination of new genres arranged and performed by some of the best young musicians in Europe. Alvik is a Prague based group which has recently leapt onto the world scene and turned ears toward their unusual mix of acoustic and electric while spanning a diverse range of styles. Alvik got their start in the small clubs of Prague with their jazzy grooves that cross-over into electro, dance, and even abstract hip hop and drum n' bass.
